Not a single study has been published comparing homeschoolers in a single area with respect to the public school'd children in the same area.

Take this website for instance. http://www.heir.org/suppress.htm

"In fact, if one can believe the results of the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and the Iowa Test of Academic Proficiency, homeschoolers as a group score approximately 25 percentage points above the general population."

They take the homeschooled children and compare to the entire state. They never judge versus the area where the kids are being homeschooled.

Take this website.
http://www.homeschooling.org.nz/article.html

"Tens of thousands of homeschooled-children are tested repeatedly in the United States. Repeatedly they outstrip the competition. With the national average falling, of course, at the 50th percentile, the results of homeschool testing in 1990 were as follows: Reading (84th percentile), Language (80th percentile), Mathematics (81st percentile), Science (84th percentile) and Social Studies (83rd percentile)."

While these results seem impressive, they neglect to say where these students were and compare them with the students in the local area. Please note that not even "pro-homeschooling" advocates have made such a study. Until this study is done, it is not possible to see the merits of homeschooling over public schooling.
