I hate to inform you, but their are many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many people that take the bible literally. I deal with them on a weekly basis. The passage that Cliff quoted is always used as justification for human actions. We have dominion over the earth, animals, and plants. "We are taking care of it by taking care of ourselves", is what they say most of the time. "It doesn't matter what happens to earth or its "other" living things because we are going to be the chosen species that makes the trek through the pearly gates of heaven", is another delightful comment I hear.

Sorry, maybe I am too cynical, but that is what I deal with.
