I wonder if we might use _your_ family name that way. Trees competing for sunlight is not war. A cat catching a rabbit is not war.
A beaver dam flooding a grassland is not war. These competing interests are an extension of mechanical processes. War, as typified by ants, humans and certain primates, is a different phenomenon.
Darwinism is really a broad picture of time and chance occurring to channels of the DNA delta as it empties its river into the present ocean for recombinant DNA research on the fly.
Misapplication of Darwin's thought was promoted in the 1800s both by
1) religion, saying God apparently likes the rich and powerful better and
2) industry, saying the same and adding that it is very efficient, and inevitable.

Real Darwinian theory actually IMPROVES management and reduces cruelty, recognizing the value of diversity and sustainability and the
true causes of thingss.
Note that Darwin-deniers are chief among those who have long refused to believe the biosphere will need to be managed.

I don't like judging "nature" as if it were
a case of bad ethics. We are just emerging from
lower states and our ethics are under assembly.
There is no excuse for bad ethics by humans in the behavior of lower animals.
