When I was living and teaching in a Siddha Yoga Ashram in the Catskills, I once asked a Swami how human consciousness is related to the consciousness of god.

His answer was that our consciousness is the consciousness of god leaking through into our brains. So it's all the same thing- just a matter of quantity and clarity. Paul's description in the second above post reminded me of the Swami's view. They sound pretty much alike.

I would add that most humans are limited to a particulate consciousness. That is, we can see or visualize only particles, which are collapsed wave functions or collapsed fields. Some yogis can apparently see the wave functions or fields themselves, according to "The Autobiography of a Yogi", and of course god can. That provides the increased clarity, like the difference between the speed of classical versus quantum computers. Maybe we all can after death. I believe that the 'illusion of separateness' is the fact that we can only see paricles whereas the universe is in the field state most of the time.
