From a Buddhist perspective, the point of the story has nothing to do with pragmatism.

I was just thinking, we in the West don't have the concept of Enlightenment. It's the most interesting thing I learned from Eastern religions, but I find it extremely difficult to communicate.

I guess the point of the story is... sorry, that would be like explaining a joke, it would destroy its efficacy.

Do you understand the Eastern concept of Enlightenment?
