Hi Mike,

I was talking to Richard, and my advice was to squelch any little religion that might bud from his ideas. Squelch it while it is small.

Neither he nor I can do much about the big ones that have had centuries to grow into the ugly dangerous things they have become. I gave him no advice about how to proceed on a project of squelching them.

***don't 'squelch' catholicism or allahism or judasm or protestism? scientology?***

To the contrary. If I knew of a way to squelch them all without hurting anyone, I would be the first to sign up to help. The problem is that there are a lot of people who find comfort in their dependence on some authority to provide them answers to hard questions. If you jerked that out from under them, it would be extremely hurtful.

I think this is the kind of thing that will take generations. If we could only teach our kids to think, there might be a chance. But, with the state of education in the U.S. today, I'm afraid we will have to wait several generations. Be patient.

Warm regards,

Paul
