If you look at the world, quite often nations or ethnic groups that are close to each other tend to fight each other. The semites of Israel and Palestine are the best examples. these two semitic ethnic groups are so close that the Koran claims that the pious jew is the most spiritual of all people. Yet they presently hate each other. Familarity tends to breed contempt.

But the war between science and the god of islam is a war between opposites in some sense. The problem is that they both seek to control human affairs in the manner that religion has up until the advent of experimental science, with the possible exception of ancient Greece.

Perhaps I am erring in putting science and democracy in the same grouping. Early Islam had the best science in the world. But the present fundamental Islam is in opposition to the freedom necessary to do science or to have a democracy. Freedom is required by both science and democracy for them to work. Control and intolerance of any other religion, including science, or any other 'way of life', is required for fundamental Islam to work. You may not think of science and democracy as a religion, but it definitely is a way of life, and that is the most conventional definition of what religion is.

It does not require all the trappings of religion, like worship or afterlife. But science certainly has elements of worship of people like Einstein. And such scientists along with inventors and technologists have created and are creating our present materialistic way of life.

Its a war because there seemingly is not room on one planet for such disparate life styles as described above.
