Hairsplitting -- Pretentious Or Honest, Did You Mean

If you meant I was being pretentious, show me where, please.
If you meant honest hairsplitting, surely you know precision is vital in sciences such as DNA mapping, aeronautics, chemistry and also in banking, even in civil law at times.

As for condescending, the term in my dictionary
fits either definition you mentioned, and I used the term ironically.

PS I would not throw a firecracker into a lake
even figuratively, I think. The term
"Racketeering 101" was used to describe a fully developed phenomenon I regret is still not well understood, where religion and public funds and
vague terminology have created some waves of disfunction which are not supposed to be happening.
