Hawking uses this to help define boundaries for possible cosmologies resulting in the universe we observe. Another boundary condition for his 'no boundary cosmology' is our universe must evolve in imaginary time in a specific way. Obviously a boundary condition for a 'no boundary proposal' is no boundaries. Its interesting how he uses the anthropic principle and it makes good scientific sense when he explains it. |
