For example, there is a popular unification principle in physics. How would you state a unification principle in math? Mathematicians take advantage of the same principle.

There's tons of non-mathematical principles (principles that are not derived from mathematics). There is the principle of parsimony (Occam's razor), principle of causality, principle of reduction, principle of generalization and universalism, principle of continuity, principle of coincidence (sigma values), principle of approximation, principle of mathematical beauty, Corpernicus principle, anthropic principles, etc, etc.

I think there is even a principle that working with principles is a good means to discovery.
