So if an asteroid is crossing Earth orbit perpendicular to Earth's motion, then the relative to Earth velocity is sqrt(19.4^2+30^2)=35.7 km/s.

If the asteroid moves "head-on" to Earth, then v = 19.4+30 = 50 km/s

If it moves "head to tail" with Earth, then Earth hits it with velocity 30-19.4 = 10 km/s.


This is NOT INCLUDING the effect of gravity of earth. As asteroid falls on Earth it additionally accelerates to roughly the escape velocity (extra 11 km/sec) wich should be vectorly added (on the top of their mutual orbital velocities).

So I think that the average velocity of falling on Earth rocks is still above 30 km/sec.
