Wanna banana - just get to the tree and and have it.

To survive in the cold you have to build efficient shelter, to hunt scarce food or to farm hard during short summer - thus nordic people are generally bigger and stronger. This alone requires to think a lot.

As an attractive alternative (to hunting in the cold or to hard farming), you may make something to trade with South for food. This also requires to be creative.
