The Same Goes For A Radio

Hi Alex,

In another post to somebody, I used the analogy of a radio. Compare the reception of a radio program by a radio with the feelings experienced by a human or a robot.

Suppose you have a radio that works and is tuned in to a station. Then suppose you try to duplicate that effect by building various machines, but let's say you knew nothing about electronics or radio transmission.

If you duplicated the radio *exactly*, of course you would get one that worked. But it wouldn't have to be off by much in order to fail completely. I think consciousness is the same. I think you would have to be extremely close in your duplication of a human to achieve it, or else you would have to understand the underlying principles in order to achieve the effect with some other configuration.

Of course, those are just my opinions.

Warm regards,

Paul
