Alexander knew the issues which might have been
raised by Ben Franklin and Thomas Paine when they
helped create teh bold new "government by consent of the governed." Sometimes they come into date again.

There was a strenuous fight for good science for
decades and for environmental awareness.
In each case, those who kept alive the "pretty good arguments" had to endure an onslaught of establishment bullying. Then, when it was discovered the underdog arguers were right,
those who had carried the water
were now themselves thirsty,
ugly, tired and cranky from arguing and not
receiving much courtesy, nor having attended
the finishing schools of the privileged.

The next wave of managers, not knowing the battle which had raged, were handed the keys to the new executive restroom. The ones who built it were never let in. Some of Alexander's thoughts have been honest and deep

His way of saying some things was abrasive and he jumped to conclusion that I am an idiot...but I can forgive that...hey, maybe it was inevitable that chapter was written as it was.
