R.T.: No. Fission is a process that breaks up the NUCLEUS of a heavy atom. In the process (in Uranium) 3 neutrons are released which hit 3 more nuclei and break them up which release 3 neutrons each an so on. Along with every neutron a photon ( wavelength of light) is also released. Electrons are not involved in nuclear fission.

Greg: How do the neutrons penetrate the orbit of the electrons and what provides for the tremendous release of energy?
