So, very young brain definitely is still too primitive to posess complex features like understanding or even self-awareness.

Also, data from outside are needed for both self-awareness and undrstanding.

So, human brain becomes self-aware well after birth (may be at 2 or 3?).

When does human brain gain understanding? Well, here it all becomes individual and depends strongly on the subject of study.

Some brains never develop even basic understanding, some understand only very few subjects (typical situation), and definitely there arew no such brains which understand everything.

Basicly, here situation with a brain is the same as with a computer. Expert databases are capable of understanding problems from certain areas and may give very competent advice. But, as humans, they are hopless outside of their "area of expertise".
