Secularism As Religion

At least in the US, every child is offered a covenant, keep all the secular laws, study hard in school, join in sports and extra-curricular activities, get into the best possibly college and grad school, and you will be a success, could easily become rich, especially if you marry well and stay married, and maybe even become President.

The only real difference between these expectations and the laws of Moses, is that the secular laws and expectations are more efficient today than the laws of Moses. Note that the Jewish covenant says nothing about getting into heaven or even getting closer to god.

So the covenants of secularism and atheism are quite similar to biblical covenants, and so much more practical, encouraging hard work and honesty.

Secularism has substitutes for the birth, marriage and death aspects of religion. It even has god substitutes, like sports heroes and movie stars, not to mention money, that mystical force that seems to run the planet.

So I conclude that if you think hard enough about it, secularism has many of the characteristics most of us attribute to religion. Even heaven on earth where we can live in luxury and do no wrong- like OJ. He is a fallen god. But that shows you what the advantages of heaven on earth can be. Many strive for this heaven. But only a few are choosen. You have to believe in the allmighty dollar, and it helps to marry well and forever.
