One sad thing is that to not be violent at all
may lead to being violently conquered and absorbed into a violent culture and forgotten eventually, as the Millenia pass. It's not a perfect world. I like your question.

Way it appears to me is that the content of the religion philosophy
cannot be blamed or credited unless we know the persons involved in an action were truly knowledgeable about the religion or philosophy
and acting from its tenets.
True social scientists (not shallow lackeys of management) who deeply study this question would be obligated to look under the surface at all factors, no only the ones publicized by the news media or historians. Each religion and philosophy has among its adherents several diverse sub-groupings with different conditions:

Among these are
* history of literature other than religious,
* history of being attacked or enslaved,
* geographic isolation
or its opposite, being "at a crossroads"

There may be more.

As difficult as it may be, a true analysis should look for factors to weigh before coming to a conclusion.
