When Edwin Hubble proved him wrong... he called his "ad hoc mutilation", the "biggest blunder of his life."

...Just as the beliefs of scientists are always evolving (i.e. no more ether, universe expands, gravitational field must be quantized, perpetual motion and "free energy" violates "2nd law", etc.)... So too do the beliefs of religous faiths (no more Zeus behind clouds, no Apollo pushing moon around Earth, no God placing rainbows in sky...)
