The New testament God has already displaced those gods of dark corners you describe- long before science dispatched them.

The one true God does not fit your description: God is Existence; even Hawking admits that a no-boundary universe would just BE!

So even Hawking finishes with the one true God of Christianity: EXISTENCE. As Hawking no doubt has forgotten his newborn and unborn days; he no doubt doesn't feel EXISTENCE is A BEING as well as "BEING".

Any other subject; humans investigate the history to understand the present. Time the scientists uncovered their own personal history AS THEY EXPERIENCED IT (not some other person's version of it) before they jump to conclusions about life the universe and everything!
