Most people who frequent these forums (except for something like sci.physics.research) don't have a scientific background and are not well read on the subject (though they think they are sometimes). I think you do better when you explain stuff as in your post I'm responding to. Recently there has been a very interesting result where there is some indication that 'the fine structure constant' may have been slightly different in the 'very, very distant' past.
