When I disagreed with Dick, he replied, "I am sorry that you are completely unable to think on your own!" Yet, in my post I neither cited, quoted, nor paraphrased anyone. I gave no indication that I'd arrived at my opinions with the help of someone else's opinions; indeed I could not have -- everything was my original thought!

So why should a PhD arrive at the conclusion that I am 'completely unable to think on my own'? Would someone with this level of formal education be so dense as to think I could not have examined both sides of the issue before responding? Of course not; clearly a PhD is capable of wielding logic...

So I am forced to deduce Dick's estimation thus: when someone arrives at a conclusion that matches the "view held by the authorities," it is per se an incorrect opinion. This 'rationale' suggests that, when someone arrives at a conclusion that contradicts the "view held by the authorities," it is per se a correct opinion.

In other words, in the world according to Dick, all one has to know before judging the validity of an hypothesis is what the 'authorities' think about it. Simple as that!
