Is Measurement Enough?

Alex,

What do measurements do to establish the existence of an entity that you cannot see, cannot taste, cannot hear, cannot touch, and cannot smell? You can only infer based on a long chain of inferences to the best explanation (IBE) from those original things that you are able to see, taste, hear, touch, and smell. In other words, your ultimate appeal for using IBE is that it is obvious. However, what if I say that the appeal to the existence of God is obvious? Afterall, you can only ultimately point to random variables as the consequence of millions of variables to our complex universe as to coming into sync in order to support organisms that can think and be consciously aware of our surroundings (and even enjoy those surroundings no less).

If you appeal to IBE because it is obvious to you, then I say that you are missing something far more obvious.

Warm regards, Harv
