that it is possible to connect two widely separated temporal points (20th century/23rd century) simply by changing motion through space.

The whole point that I've been trying so hard to get across is that "relativistic" effects are just as real as "proper-frame", indicating that space and time are one and the same thing. Past, future and present are different for different observers with different state of motion; however proper-past, future, and present reamin fixed in causual order. Relativity doesn't give any reason (as far as I know) that one can't just go ahead and say that we advance through spacetime at the rate of c, and all that changes is our light cone's direction or orientation (tipping of the light cone).
