I don't think you need here to explain superluminal collapse because nothing physical collapses.

The wave function of e/m field states (=photons) indeed does not have imaginary components (electron wave function does have), but the wave is still NOT the FIELD itself (E or B), so do not mix the two different "objects". It is just an amplitude of probability to FIND certain energy in e/m field (=to find energy of certain state of e/m field). So, nothing physical actually collapses when you detect a "photon" even if a spherical shell of probability is 10 billion years in radius.
