Well, such properties of matter as spin, various charges (electric, baryon, etc.), mass and some others HAVE to mathematically follow from something more fundamental. Standard model STARTS from the level of present knowledge (=particles as they are) and explains nicely how forces and interactions (governing everything above) emerge (using symmetry of space and time and identicity of particles). Standard model thus uses 19 experimental parameters (masses, charges, etc) and symmetries to explain it all "futher up".
