the natural motion of objects through spactime is a geodesic (straight line through curved spacetime). This is an inertial free fall frame where no forces are acting upon the object. Energy and angular momentum are constants of the motion in this frame and things falling in the general direction towards the black hole are captured only if the impact paramenter is less than some minimum value (5.196...). An object falling radially with no angular momentum has an impact paramenter of 0. |
