those references on SR I posted to you. I think you mentioned that you are a young student of physics. The proper time interval is an invariant.
Invariants are very useful in relativity. Read the first several pages of this SR review chapter in this intro to GR 'Exploring Black Holes' E.F.Taylor and J.A.Wheeler. Think how you can use this simple metric to get your point across. Brian Greene's analogy was right and it is easily understood through this simple metric.
