In ancient times we gathered information via senses. And were wrong in our perception of world most of the time. Only when we started using independent of our senses devices (yard stick, watch, balance, etc.) we started to gain unbiased by our subjective senses information. Only then science actually emerged - and as an accurate description of world.


And this accurate description accumulated enough information to show us that the laws governing world (natural laws) are actually pure mathematical (=logical) rules.

And this fact gave us great power to enchance our life and to predict with allowed by math accuracy what will happen down the road for such and such initial conditions (say, what direction and velocity to throw a probe in space with, so that gravity of several mutually moving bodies (Sun, Earth, Moon, Mars, Jupiter) will affect it in such a way that eventually the probe will arrive to the same definite point in space to which one of the bodies (Mars) will ariive at the same time too. (And we may still have a crash landing due to human error of "perceiving" metric data as being English ones).
