But bear in mind the progression from Homo Erectus to Homo Habilus to Cro Magnun Man to Homo Sapiens. (not totally sure I got those in the right order) There is still an evolutionary progression. We haven't excavated the whole earth yet. :)

Also bear in mind that we did NOT evolve from apes. Both us and today's apes both evolved from the same COMMON ancestor. There is a difference, and a very significant one.
