Vitamin A - Pigment

I thought skin pigmentation was a way to regulate (in a society wide sense) the production of Vitamin A in the skin from sunlight. Thus, humans from the tropics have dark skin to temper the production of Vitamin A, while pale white folks need to maximize production from less sunlight.

At least that's what the PBS shows suggest.

I do know my black friends get sunburns.
