I think that Aurino is basically correct in that we're damned if we do, damned if we don't. Now, I would never suggest inaction and blind pessimism as a solution. But I would say that these next few decades will be very interesting, from a cold, inhuman perspective. Once terrorists get their hands on biological and nuclear weapons (and it's got to happen some day) we are all SOL. Heavy population centers or not, ebola, anthrax, and radioactive fallout have grave consequences on any scale. I predict decades of pretty dire conflict.
