: Three blind men we led by a scholar to meet an elephant. Each of the blind men were asked to touch the elephant and describe what they were touching. The first blind man touched the side of the animal, and thus concluded that it must be a wall, since the hide was rough. The second man touched the trunk of the animal, and asserted that he was touching a hose. The third man touched the tail and said that I must be a rope. Being human severely limits us as to how we can view the universe and how much we are capable of ever knowing. The best we can do is theorize, and make sense of the world through the tools we have available at any one time. Science admits that no theory is every really complete, but strives nonetheless to come closer and closer to what the truth is. Absolute truth may never be attainable. |
