I live in Malaysia which is only a couple from degrees north of the Equator and am just starting to go into this hobby a little more seriously.

I am thinking of changing my 4" Newtonian reflector to a SCT ot Maksutov-Cassegrain (ETX 90 EC?). Primary use for planetary observations with some astrophotography (new to me); only limited deepsky as viewing conditions are not so good. Budget around US$1,200. I have to worry about the mount since I am close to the Equator. Any suggestions? Also, would like to hear from anyone who has used SCT (esp Meade, Celestron) standard mounts in low latitudes.

Thank you.
