I've done a simulation of the Alpha Centauri system with planets at various distances. It's true that the Kirkwood gaps would be unacceptable places to find planets, but I also found that planets with orbits comparable in size to Earth's were fine. The orbit would slightly change when the stars were at their closest, but it was stable overall. |
