Difficult to say on your short description. This may sound daft, but is it in focus?! Have you tried the telescope during the day? Look at a building more than 100m away and see if you can get any images. I'm guessing it is a Newtonian relector, in which case you might check the alignment of the optics- take out the eyepiece and look into the telescope through the now empty eyepiece holder - you should see the main mirror, with the secondary mirror in the centre and your eye in the centre of that. Hope this helps.
