Guy I own an 80mm Orion shortube and take some pretty impressive photos. The short focal length allows for shorter exposures so tracking errors are less likely. I like to use a barlow lense to get close ups of galaxies. Prome focus is great for large nebula. I think it's a good idea to start out with something small like this one along with a good sturdy mount for tracking. Good luck. Chris
