1) So I do not think it is correct to apply the idea of natural selection to such catastrophic events that entire species and 80-90% of all life are destroyed.

Yes, natural selection has already proceeded through such events as you describe in biological history. There is no support whatsoever in biological science for the point in italics above. I hesitated to even address this except in case the italics above might influence some innocent person just starting out might acquire an entirely fallacious set of assumptions and be temporarily lost. Supposedly that was a scientist who wrote the italics above, though we have not recently had confirmation it is the same person who has been posting here using that name.

2) Some paths are fit to survive the environment challenge posed by the double slit and others self desstruct, even on a photon by photon basis.
and
That is a fair analogy for the operation of natural selection.
Genetic material (DNA/hromosomes)will continue to ignore the logic shown in italics above (as it has since life began)
and by recombining will give rise to life forms which never proved themselves in anything like the double slit experiments. BTW, it is a known fallacy in science to believe your metaphors like that. All chemical pathways are specific and I think none truly function in the metaphorical models we might wish for simplicity's sake.
In sympathy,
Mike
