"Function" depends on whose ox is gored (or bushed). Science CAN *NOT*
(see the "not" ? ) endorse value judgments or functions in evolution because

(The survival of a "fittest warrior" sometimes comes at the cost of losing the "fittest builder." But that's another point.)
