But, I'm pretty content to say that 'Spot' as a name of a dog doesn't define a dog, but it is very helpful in calling a particular dog for his dinner when need be. Same way for 'Space', it doesn't define what it is that we am referring to when we use that term, but it is very helpful when people wish to travel from a certain reference point to another certain reference point. The issue is not trying to define things (unless we are Webster), the issue is to clarify what we mean when we use a certain word. As long as we are referring to the same thing when we say 'Space' (which is not easily assumed), then the word is well suited for that purpose. Anything more is an illusive game we use to fool ourselves.
