Set theory is not universally considered the most fundamental, category theory is also being discussed as such. Since category theory is rather new, it makes sense that other more 'fundamental' theories are out there that remain to be discovered or invented.

Which brings me to my second point. What if mathematics is an invention? What if scientific theories are inventions? Does it matter? Science is useful and who cares if it is absolute truth or if mathematics is absolute truth?

I have to finish mowing my lawn, how's that for absolute truth?
