The moon/lunar elevator topic is related to improving our chances of our ever communicating with and/or of getting ourselves safely to/from the likes of Mars or Venus. As for accommodating that sort of quest, we'll soon be in need of a darn good Lunar Space Elevator, or the GMDE (Guth Moon Dirt Express) as for accommodating the ultimate depot and/or nullification gateway in the sky:
