Optics Test Questions

I'm looking for some help on how to judge the quality of the optics on a refractor. I received an Orion Astroview 120ST for Christmas to complement my LX200 GPS, but haven't had a chance to take a good look through it yet. Can I test it inside with a laser? How much extra color should I be seeing? I would like to take advantage of Orion's return policy soon if necessary. I don't really know much about the procedures of testing optics but am looking to learn. Thanks in advance for any help.
Jake
