Collimation

use the star test to check your collimation. pick a bright star and rack it out of focus. you should see concentric rings with a black spot in the middle, this spot is your secondary mirror, if the spot is in the middle of these rings with even spacing all around through all of the rings your collimation is good. unless you live in an area with very dark skies and little or no air pollution or humidity I would'nt expect to see much more than what you described with a ten inch.
