I was trying to decide between the high end refractor and the SCT. I saw a 12"LX200 standing right next to a Meade 7" APO refractor. Both were excellent. It would be a hard choice which one to go home with. For the same price as the 12"LX200 I could only get the 5" refractor. That was no contest. Although the images through a good refractor are excellent, your not gonna see as much as with the larger aperture. It's really a personal choice. I see new stuff every time I go out with the 12"LX200, I don't think that would be the case with the 5". You wont be dissapointed with 12"LX200.
