Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Wish I knew more about this - it's a fascinating topic. Magnetic fields result from moving charges. Since just about all planets and moons have a negligible net charge then theoretically there should be no magnetic fields associated with them. But then there's another factor that comes into play - the dynamics of mobile electrons inside the molten metallic cores of rotating planets. I could be wrong or oversimplifying things, but I think that's what differentiates magnetic field strengths in celestial bodies more than anything. I hope this addresses the problem; if not let me know! |
