After searching around the 'net a bit more, I sort of figured that "the one" I would give him would probably be an Orion. :) It looks like they make excellent equipment and are held in high esteem by many astronomers. Sort of makes me wonder why there isn't an "Orion forum" on here. But, I digress....

Thank you again for the advice and hopefully my hubby will get around to joining astronomy.net in a few weeks. Heck, if the telescope is as good as it appears to be, he might end up having to deal with a scope-hogging wife. *grins* Now that I think about it... *I* was the one who stayed up all night watching the Leonids -- he went back to the car and fell asleep!
