Today's amateur astronomer owns equipment that would have seemed impossible a relativly short time ago. With the latest scopes images are being gained that match those available from all but the world's largest equipment. My question is, are we gaining anything significant from this. Is today's amateur advancing our knowledge of the universe or has the days of valuable contribution from the humble guy at the eyepiece of his telescope become a thing of the past. |
