Andromeda In Meade LX200

Hi,

I have a 10" Meade LX200, and have tried looking
at the Andromeda Galaxy. All I have been able
to see is a large smudge, which I believe is it's
central bulge. I was hoping to be able to
discern the spiral arms.

Would I need a larger aperature scope to see
the spiral arms? Or will I need to utilize a
CCD (or film) camera to see this level of detail.

I just don't know to what extent I would be able
to discern deep sky objects with the naked eye
in the telescope I have (in particular, spiral
arms of galaxies).

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!
