Thanks Eddie, I had just about made up my mind to opt for the mirror, but your reply helped me to confirm it.

Not that I know that much about optics, but it occurred to me that image quality must suffer more going through a thickness of glass, no matter how pure, than it would if it were reflected. Also, the potential for color aberrations would also, I suspect, be much greater with a prism than with a mirror. Thanks for helping out.
